Parvel - HELP
Below you will find a series of the most frequently asked questions that we receive.
Can't find your question below? Just drop us a line using this contact form.
As soon as your smart phone/tablet has connected to your Parvel device the "Start" button will turn green and you are now ready to start monitoring your baby's sleep.
Place the Parvel device in close proximity to where your baby is sleeping i.e. underneath the blanket, in the pram or underneath the overall.
Click on "Start" to start the session and begin monitoring.
Yes you can!
Click the "Settings" icon in the bottom of the screen
Of course! Click the "Settings" icon in the bottom of the screen and drag the slider for the motion sensor to the desired position.
Parvel is equipped with an incredibly sensitive motion gyro that can detect even the slightest motions or movements.
Since Parvel is places within close proximity of the baby when sleeping, even the smallest motions can be detected*
*this is based on the level of sensitivity set, see above "Can I change the sensitivity of the motion sensor?" for more information
Yes! The information from the Parvel device is sent in the background and has no effect on your normal usage of your phone/tablet. Simply minimize the app and go ahead and use your phone/tablet as usual, Parvel is still running and will notify you as soon as something happens!
Simple answer is, you don't!
Thanks to the extremely low energy consumption of the Parvel device there is no real need to be able to turn it off. As soon as the Parvel is not being used it will revert back into a sleeping state ensuring that a single battery will last approx. 2 years with normal usage. Hence, as long as you are connected to the Parvel device, it is always ready to be used.
If you still want to completely turn your Parvel off, simply remove the battery.
Use a coin or a large screw driver to open the lid covering the battery on the Parvel device's back side. Replace the battery with a new CR 2477 3V battery and close the lid back up.
(Note: you might have to reconnect to the Parvel device once the battery has been replaced, see above "How do I get started?"
The range of the Bluetooth signal that the Parvel device emits is approx 20-30m. That might seem short compared to other baby monitors but is usually more than enough in a normal sized house/flat. There is also a direct relationship between the range and the electro magnetic radiation emitted by the unit. The longer the range, the higher levels of radiation. That is why we have opted for a shorter range in favour of severely lower levels of radiation than our competitors. As with all wireless communication walls, ceilings, other electronic equipment might reduce the signal thus shortening the effective reach.
If the connection is broken you will receive a notification that the signal has been broken / or the Parvel device is out of reach.
This is normally because "Energy saving-mode" is activated on your phone and for the Parvel-app.
1. On your Android phone/tablet go to:
Settings > Battery > Energysaving for apps > Information
2. Select "Parvel" in the list of apps and click on "Disable" to disable energy saving for the Parvel app
3. Restart the app and try to connect again
Normally this take 5-20 seconds. However, the first time you launch the app it can take longer, up to a few minutes depending on your phone/tablet.
If you experience that it takes a very long time for the Parvel device to connect to your phone/tablet, please ensure the following:
1. Make sure you have Bluetooth activated on your phone/tablet
2. Make sure you are not already connected to any other Bluetooth devices
3. Keep the Parvel in close proximity (within 10cm) to your phone/table
4. Ensure that the Parvel app is not running in "Energy saving-mode" (see above)
The first time you connect to you Parvel, please allow up to 1-5 minutes for the Parvel to connect (varying depending on the brand of the phone/tablet)
The radiation emitted by Radio Frequency devices (RF) are measured by their Special Absorption Rate (SAR) which is a measure of the rate at which energy is absorbed by the human body when exposed to a radio frequency (RF) electromagnetic field. It can also refer to absorption of other forms of energy by tissue, including ultrasound. It is defined as the power absorbed per mass of tissue and has units of watts per kilogram (W/kg).
Mobile phones are normally limited to a maximum SAR value (W/kg) by regulation that can vary between different countries but it is normally around a maximum value of 2 W/kg. The Bluetooth technology used by Parvel emits 0,002 W/kg.
Comparison between different wireless devices:
- Apple iPhone 7 - 1,1 W/kg
- Baby monitors - 0,01 - 0,3 W/kg
- Bluetooth (BLE) devices (Parvel®) - 0,002 W/kg
